Can you provide a loving home for a pair of donkeys?
Once we have restored our precious residents to full health it is essential that we can find ‘forever homes’ for them in order to live out their days in a safe, loving and caring environment.
Donkeys are social creatures and usually bond with a companion so in most cases you would be opening your heart to a pair of donkeys. Occasionally a donkey comes along who prefers to be solitary, although it is less common.
A single donkey may be rehomed as a companion animal to a home that already has a donkey.
· You must have time in your life to make a commitment to the care of your donkeys and make them a big part of your life.
· Fostered donkeys should be housed separately from all other animals and equines.
· You must own a minimum of one acre of suitable grazing land. You must also live in close proximity to this land in order to be able to visit the donkeys daily.
· Exterior perimeter fencing must be permanent, secure and well maintained. Also, donkeys must have access to clean drinking water at all times. A ‘hard stand’ must also be provided.
· A suitable stable/shelter must be provided
· Poisonous plants, shrubs and trees to be removed or fenced off as appropriate. Ragwort, Foxglove and Hemlock are the most common causes of poisoning in this country. Please see list of other poisonous plants below.
