HELP A DONKEY
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns about a donkey in your area or if you have observed an animal in distress.
Our telephone number is 087 2199977 and lines are open 24/7
In order for our volunteers to respond as quickly and efficiently as possible could you please try and have the following information before phoning,
· Exact location
· Owner of the donkey or land
· The exact nature of your concern, e.g. overgrown hooves, poor physical condition, lack of food and water or possibly all of these.
· Photographs
Whether ownership can be determined or not i.e., the donkey or donkeys are wandering on roadways or open countryside you must report the animals whereabouts to the local Gardai in order to establish if a donkey may have been reported missing.
We cannot legally pick up a donkey without a relinquishment form being signed by an owner as we are then open to accusations of theft if an owner is subsequently found. Therefore it is important to involve the Gardai before collection of the animal/animals.
Also, the Department of Agriculture have a dedicated email address and Helpline in place for reporting suspected cases of animal neglect or cruelty:
